When

- Arabs arrived in 14 and 18 centuries
- Began late 1800s, there was intermarraige between Africans and Arabs which contributed to little cultural distinction
-1898, Darfur is an independant region
- 1916, Darfur was annexed by British along with the South of Sudan, and promoted Christianity. On the other hand, Egypt controlled the North of Sudan and promoted Islam.
- 1955, fighting between North and South began in earnest
- 1956 Sudan Independent
- 1958-1972 Civil war. Ended with treaty between Khartoum and Anya Nya.
- 1958 General Ibrahim Abboud led army coup, which lasted 8 years. Then he was overthrown and replaced by civilian government
- 1983, Khartoum, the political capital, broke treaty and imposed islamic law on Sudan called "September laws"
- From 1987 to 1989 a land dispute broke out between the Fur tribe and herding tribes in northern Darfur, the Fur-Arab conflict
- 1989 General Omar Hassan Ahmad al- Bashir took power organized by National Islamic Front (NIF), however Darfur was neglected
- Mid 1990s the Sudanese government split up Darfur into different regions
- 2005, Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) created treaty to be followed by North and South
- 2007, CPA treaty falls apart.
